Identification of vehicles

Sigur supports a number of vehicle identification methods. Depending on your goals, you can choose one method that suits you the most or a combination of methods.

  • number plate recognition
  • active tags, proximity cards or RFID key fobs
  • identification using a GSM channel
  • route planning and control at checkpoints
  • free parking lots count and parking time tracking



Vehicle checkpoints

Vehicle identification upon arrival to and departure from the territory of the company is one of the primary goals of a checkpoint. Most of these checkpoints are equipped with various barriers, gates or bollards. If the traffic is intense, traffic lights or information displays can be additionally installed.

Placement of the readers depends on the identification method used. For example, if a card will be used, the reader should be installed at the level of the driver’s window.

After successful identification, a vehicle can be inspected as necessary. The inspection results and the inspector’s details are registered in the system.

Overview of the identification methods

Sigur uses a number of vehicle identification methods and identifiers, which differ from each other in a number of ways. The choice of the method depends on the specific features and requirements of your site, traffic intensity and other conditions.

Identification method Range Description
Number plate recognition Several meters The accuracy depends on the external conditions such as rain, dirty number plate, poor lighting, easy to fake
Proximity cards Standard: 2cm to 10 cm
Long-range: 0.4m to 1.5m
The same cards can be used to identify employees at doors within the site, not expensive. Due to a short range, for these cards to work the driver has to put their hand out or step out of the vehicle.
Passive UHF tags Several meters Tags are put on a vehicle and do not require battery replacement.
Active RFID tags Tens of meters For these tags to work, the batteries should be replaced from time to time.
RFID key fobs Tens of meters For them to work, photosensors need to be installed to determine the direction of movement. To gain access, a button has to be pressed.

Number plate recognition

To enable use of a number plate as an identifier, Sigur supports integration with a number of video surveillance systems that can recognize number plates, including: Trassir, Eocortex, Intellect and others.

Integration with third-party number plate recognition systems

Sigur provides a development kit that enables the user to configure interactions between third-party number plate recognition algorithms and our access control system.

Route planning and control at checkpoints

The vehicle identification functionality in Sigur enables vehicle control at checkpoints within the territory of the company such as at unloading areas. If a vehicle has failed to check at the warehouse, it will not be allowed out since the system will see the vehicle as “not unloaded”.

This functionality is also helpful at sites with many tenants, where the traffic of vehicles for each tenant has to be recorded. In this case, readers are installed for each tenant, where all guests will check in at arrival.

Free parking lots count and parking time tracking

The system allows the users to set the total number of parking lots. With vehicles arriving and departing, Sigur will automatically count any occupied and free lots. This information can be shown on a display.

The cost of parking depends on the parking time of the vehicle. Sigur can register the parking time and calculate the parking cost with flexible pricing such as the first hour free, next three hours at one price, five and more hours at another price.
